Dear community members,
On February 27, the Misconduct Working Group met to continue the discussion regarding sexual misconduct policies and procedures before recommendations are delivered to President Fenves on February 28.
The meeting opened with updates from a faculty-led listening session with representatives from Husch Blackwell. There was a brief overview of faculty concerns, including issues around accountability and retaliation, along with suggestions to revise and improve the teacher evaluation process.
The meeting continued with a group review of proposed policy language. Members of the working group discussed how to describe mitigating factors and their potential implications. The group also discussed the role of restorative justice and the complainant’s voice and perspective in the process.
A major focus of the meeting was regarding organizational structure with examples from peer institutions. The group discussed where structural barriers currently exist and how a centralized office could be a potential solution.
The Misconduct Working Group will convene again in March. Husch Blackwell is expected to deliver policy recommendations to President Fenves tomorrow. The final recommendations will be shared with the campus community sometime next week.
